Video Games Accessories: Adding To The Fun

As I am writing this piece it is currently the weekend. Do you know what that means? That’s Right, chores! Lot’s and lots of chores! Between you and me though, after my chores I plan on gaming. I have to beat the God Of War 3 Remastered Edition on my PS4 so I can have an excuse to buy the new one. Oh yes, my weekend will be bloody. Oddly enough though, having to do chores got me thinking about a few things about gaming (who thinks like that?!)

There are so many tools to get the job done with chores, video game accessories are kind of like those tools for gamers. Sure you can dig that stump out with your bare hands, but wouldn’t a shovel make the job a bit easier? Let’s talk about some Video Games Accessories!

Head Phones

In the old days of gaming when I was growing up, like the 90s, the only person you would be talking to would be the person sitting next to you on the couch. Or your mom who was yelling at you to take out the trash, mow the lawn, feed the Dog because he hasn’t eaten since the day before. I shouldn’t have had pets as a kid. The point is, in order for us to talk with our friends while gaming we had to be in the same room or house. Introducing the internet and headphones to gamers was like introducing fire to a primitive tribe. We knew we loved it and that it was the greatest thing we’ve seen at the time, we just didn’t really know what to do with it.

With everything, connecting with friends over the internet improved to how we know gaming today. In order to have clear conversations with friends and make the most out of our gaming session a lot of us want to have the best of the best, top of the line, the creme de la creme!! Of headphones. You can go with a few options. You can buy generic headsets with one earpiece and mic. This will help you save some money as these often go as low as $10. You’ll be fine of course but you get what you pay for a lot of times and you will not have much of an edge on the competition if you play competitive titles.

There are so many kinds of Head Sets out there that it is tough to keep track of what will be a quality product and what will be thrown right in the trash. I use a couple of different headsets for my consoles myself. I have my turtle beach and my Razer for my Xbox one, my Gold edition headset from PlayStation for my PS4 along with a one earpiece headset from PlayStation and my phone earbuds for my Nintendo Switch. Personally speaking, I love all of these headsets. They are great options for my style of play and meet the need of what I am looking for as a gamer.

My Razer and Turtle beach headsets are great because I can go from one earpiece with my Turtle Beach to two earpieces with my Razer. If I am playing a shooter like Halo or Call Of Duty, I grab my Razer. I have the Razer Thresher and have not looked back since. It is comfortable enough for long gaming sessions and lightweight where you don’t feel like you have something slapped on your head. I can hear my surroundings a lot clearer than if I were to stick with only one earpiece and that helps a ton in shooters.

Racing Sims

Want to feel the rush of racing in the Indy 500 without the fear of crashing into a wall? Then some racing sim accessories are for you! There are plenty of accessories for this type of simulation, some of them won’t break the bank while others are a bit on the pricier side.

CHAIRS – I had a previous discussion about Video Gaming Chairs here: http://all4gamerz.com/video-gaming-chairs-and-you. I go into some information on comfy chairs and bucket seat chairs. The racing game chair is becoming more and more popular by the day. I know because I have one myself for my PC and it is magnificent! It really does help get you more immersed in racing games, before you even pick the game up you feel like you’re ready to go hit the circuit. A good chair will run you a decent penny, so you might want to save up a little first.

STEERING WHEEL – Depending on what system you buy a steering wheel or both the wheel and the pedals, this may get expensive. Let’s go with the least expensive option first. Let’s say you want to have a more simulated feel for Mario Kart for the Nintendo Switch. There is a wheel for the Joy Con remotes that will not cost very much depending on where and from what company you’re buying from. On average, you may end up spending between 10 to 15 dollars. All it is is a piece of plastic that you snap the remote into, the wheel is also on the smaller side which may be a turn off to some.

STEERING WHEEL AND PEDALS – That’s an example of something not breaking the bank. Not the best thing out there but for the most part, it gets the job done. Now, let’s take a look at something for the Xbox one that is going to be more engaging and more of that simulator feel you’re looking for. There are plenty of accessories out there that will have the wheel and pedals in the same set. These will be more on the pricier side, depending on which set you buy. It will be worth the investment though.

Let’s take a look at the Thrustmaster TMX Force Feed Back for the Xbox One. One of the best features, in my opinion, is this is cross-platform. You can play on your Xbox One or on your PC, that to me is a game changer and will save money on buying two separate wheels. The feedback is pretty responsive when you’re going around tight turns and are approaching top speeds. The pedals that come along with this set are alright. They definitely add to the experience but a lot of people at one point had an issue with them. Personally, I haven’t had any issue with them, they are responsive for what I am looking for and I don’t need to rely much on the face buttons on the wheel during a race. This purchase will run you somewhere around $200. I feel you get the most out of your money because you can play on both PC and your Xbox, the wheel has great feedback and you don’t need to buy the pedals separately.

Furniture, Tables, and Chairs Oh My!

The last thing I will talk about here will be pretty brief. Let’s talk about furniture! Am I the only one excited for this? Eh, let’s get into it. So we as gamers love our consoles like they were our children. For those who have children, I hope you love them more. We want to make sure our investments like consoles, controllers, and games are in neat order and out of harms way. There are a lot of options here to choose from. You can make your own stand if you’re handy enough, you can use an old coffee table for the accessories. The choices are limitless! I personally don’t have enough time in the day or am I handy enough to make my own things. That’s why I buy my own stuff from companies and people who do it better than I could.

There is an all in one piece that will keep your TV, your console’s and your controllers off the floor while also looking pretty sleek. It’s the Atlantic – Centipede TV stand. This is more of something you would want for your bedroom gaming area. It can hold most moderate size TV’s, again something you would mostly have in your bedroom, not in the living room. Your systems would go right in the middle, depending on how you showcase them you can fit about 3. Your controllers can go on both sides of the stand and you fit some games on both sides as well.

The best thing about this particular stand is it is not all that expensive in terms of furniture pieces. You can typically find the price anywhere from $100 to around $85.

Time To Wrap Up

There are plenty of ways to add to the already existing fun that is video games, it really does depend on what you’re looking for as a gamer. You don’t need to have all the accessories, you can only have the consoles and games and have just as much fun. If you have the extra money though, why not pick up something that will make your experience a little better?

Let me know your thoughts. Are there any accessories you bought that was what you were looking for or did they end up not panning out? Leave your comments below.

  • Love this post about the headsets! I remember the days of playing Halo with four TVs in the house and a group of 16, each team in different rooms. Now I can just listen to my husband talk to those he plays with online as I put the kids to sleep… Good times 🙂

Playing Halo was the best not only because you got to hang out and play video games all night but because you got to play with all your friends in the same house! Thank you so much for the comment
